Local Excavation Company
About Our Cambridge Excavation Company
Fennex Cambridge Excavation Pros is a Cambridge, Ontario excavation company that has been digging foundations, trenches and building sites across Waterloo Region for more than 40 years. We work for homeowners, builders, developers and businesses throughout Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo, Guelph and the surrounding townships.
Our approach is straightforward: show up when we say we will, dig to the drawings and leave the property tidier than most people expect from a construction site. That approach is backed by a COR safety certification, WSIB coverage and full licensing and insurance.
Four Decades of Excavation in Waterloo Region
Fennex has been doing excavation work in Waterloo Region for more than four decades. Over that time our crews have dug for new homes, additions, septic systems, driveways, servicing trenches and commercial sites across the area.
The region has changed a great deal in 40 years, as farmland around Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo turned into subdivisions and business parks. What has not changed is the ground: heavy clay till in some areas, loose sand and gravel on the moraines and a high water table near the Grand and Speed rivers.
Those conditions decide how we slope a trench, how we handle water in an open hole and which granular we bring in for backfill. Knowing them is what keeps a dig on schedule when the soil changes halfway down.
Safety First: Our Certifications
Safety and accountability are the first things to check when you hire anyone to dig on your property. Fennex holds three credentials you can ask us to prove.
COR Certified Through IHSA
The Certificate of Recognition (COR) is a construction safety certification issued through the Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA). Earning it requires a documented health and safety management system and an external audit of how that system works in the field.
Many general contractors, municipalities and commercial owners require COR before they will hire an excavation contractor. It shows that hazards such as trench collapse, overhead power lines and struck-by incidents are managed through a planned program.
WSIB Coverage
Fennex is registered with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), Ontario's workplace insurance system. If one of our workers is hurt on your job, the claim is handled through WSIB, which keeps you out of a costly dispute.
Ask any contractor for a current WSIB clearance certificate before work starts. It protects you from liability for a contractor's unpaid premiums.
Licensed and Insured
Fennex is licensed and carries liability insurance for the excavation work we perform. That coverage matters when heavy equipment works next to foundations, buried services and neighbouring property.
We can provide a certificate of insurance for your records or for your general contractor before the job begins.
The People Behind the Machines
The people at Fennex are equipment operators and site crew who live and work in Waterloo Region. The skills that matter most in excavation, such as reading soil, cutting a grade by eye and working a bucket close to a gas line, only come from years in the seat.
Everyone on our sites works within our COR safety program, which includes a hazard assessment before each dig. When you call, you talk to people who know the equipment and the ground, not a call centre.
Our Equipment Fleet
Our equipment is matched to the jobs Waterloo Region produces, from tight backyard digs to open building sites. The machines we run fall into these categories:
- Mini excavators for backyard work, footings and trenching where gate width and lawn protection matter
- Skid steer loaders (Bobcats) for grading, moving material and site cleanup
- Full-size tracked excavators for foundations, basements, demolition and deeper servicing trenches
- Dump trucks for hauling excavated soil out and granular material in
- Attachments such as digging and grading buckets, augers for post holes and hydraulic hammers for breaking concrete
Matching the machine to the site keeps costs down and damage low. A mini excavator that fits through the gate can save a day of lawn repair compared with a larger machine that has to go around.
How We Treat Your Property and Your Neighbours
We treat your property the way we would want our own treated, with a plan for your yard, your driveway and the people next door. Most of our work happens in neighbourhoods where we will be driving past for years, and that keeps us careful.
- Ground protection mats or plywood over lawns and soft areas where machines travel
- Driveways, sidewalks and roads swept at the end of each work day
- Open excavations fenced or covered when the crew leaves the site
- Neighbours told ahead of time about trucks, noise and the expected schedule
- Excess soil taken to a proper receiving site, never dumped on the next lot
You will always know what is happening on your property and when we expect to finish. If the schedule shifts because of weather or locates, we tell you right away.
What Our Customers Say
The best way to hear what our customers say is to read their reviews on our Google Business Profile. Those reviews come from homeowners and contractors we have worked for, in their own words.
If we have worked on your property, we would appreciate a review there as well. It helps your neighbours choose an excavation contractor with confidence.
